Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multiracial, multicultural, multi-religious, and multilingual country. The most spoken language is Nepali followed by several other ethnic languages.

Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, is set in a valley surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. At the heart of the old citys maze-like alleys is Durbar Square, which becomes frenetic during Indra Jatra, a religious festival featuring masked dances. Many of the city’s historic sites were damaged or destroyed by a 2015 earthquake. Durbar Square`s place, Hanuman Dhoka, and Kasthamandap, a wooden Hindu temple, are being rebuilt.

Culture of Nepal
The culture of Nepal encompasses the various cultures belonging to the 125 distinct ethnic groups present in Nepal. The culture of Nepal is expressed through music and dance; art and craft; folklore; language and literature; philosophy and religion; festivals and celebration; foods and drinks.
Hindu and Buddhist traditions in Nepal go back more than two millennia. In Lumbini, Buddha was born, and Pashupatinath temple, Kathmandu, is an old and famous Shiva temple of Hindus. Nepal has several other temples and Buddhist monasteries, as well as places of worship of other religious groups.

The local currency in Nepal is Rupee. Kathmandu airport has a 24 hour bank exchange counter. The Nepalese rupee (Rs) is divided into 100 paisa (p). There are coins for denominations of one, two, five and 10 rupees, and bank notes in denominations of one, two, five, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 rupees.

AGRICULTURE
Agriculture of Nepal
Agriculture-primarily the cultivation of rice, corn (maize), and wheat-engages most of Nepal’s population and accounts for well over half of the country’s export earnings.
The agricultural sector has remained the backbone of the national economy. Agriculture contributes 24.0 percent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provides the main occupation for approximately 62.0 percent of households. About 67.0 percent of the total population resides within agricultural families.
FLAG
The flag is a simplified combination of two single pennons, the vexillological word for a pennant. Its crimson red is the colour of the rhododendron, the country`s national flower. Red is also the sigh of victory in war. The blue boarder is the colour of peace.
The national flag of Nepal is the world`s only non-rectangular flag which is used as both the state and civil flag of a sovereign country. The flag is a simplified combination of two single pennants, known as a double-pennon.

Nepalese painting Nepalese Painting or Nepali Painting begins with the religious paintings with Hindu and Buddhist subjects, almost all Newa art by the Newari people of the Kathmandu valley. These traditional paintings can be found in the form of either wall paintings, cloth paintings called paubha, or manuscripts.

The Nepalese rupee (रु.) has been pegged to the Indian rupee (₹) at the rate रु.1.60 = ₹1 since 1994; prior to this, it had been pegged at the rate रु.1.45 = ₹1.
