POLLUTION2024 The harmful changes made in the environment due to various human activities are called pollution. The harmful toxic substances that cause pollution are known as pollutants. There are four main types of pollution. air, water , soil and noise.https://queenji.com/2024/10/26/pollution/↗
Air Pollution: Everything You Need to Know
The mixing of harmful and other particles like smoke and dust in the air is called air pollution. Most of the air pollutants, come from the burning of fuels, exhaust from vehicles, industries and power stations.
SOURCES OF AIR POLLUTION
Thing that make the air dirty and unfit for breathing are called air pollutants. They come from-
- VEHICLES: Cars, buses, trucks, motorbikes, and autorickshaw release smoke into the air. This smoke makes the air polluted.
- FACTORIES: Some factroies burn large quantities of coal to produce heat. This releases a lot of smoke, that mixes with air and makes the air polluted.
- FOREST FIRES:The burning of a forest on its own is called a forests fire. It is a natural calamity. Forest fire also release a lot of smoke intothe air. This smoke cause air pollution.
- VOLCANIC ERUPTION: When a volcano erupts, it releases a lot of smoke and dust particles in the air . This dust and smoke cause air pollution.
EFFECTS
Polluted air causes many respiratory disorders like bronchitis, asthma and throat infection. It irritates our eyes and skin. Polluted air produces acid rain. It causes damage to the soil, plants, animals and even buildings. It also causes harm to other living organisms. Air pollution leads to global warming. Which causes
preventive measures
- We should use public transporttation more often.
- We should turn off the engine of our vehicles while waiting at traffic lights.
- WE should turn off lights, fans and other electrical appliances, when not in use.
- Electrical vehicle should be promoted.
- Plant more trees as trees clean the air.
WATER POLLUTION
When water bodies get contaminated with various pollutants, is is called water pollution. Water is polluted due to human activities, industrial and farm effluents and sewage from homes and hospitals released into water bodies. Sea water is polluted by oil spills.
SOURCES OF WATER POLLUTION
- TRASH: When people throw garbage, plastic bottles, or other items on the ground instead of putting them in the trash, they can end up in rivers, lakes or oceans, making the water polluted and harmful.
- CHEMICLES: Factories use water to cool their machines. This used water contains many chemicals. This water flows into rivers and other water bodies. The chemicals in this water get into water bosies and make it polluted.
- SEVAGE AND WASTEWATER: We all use water for our day to day activities like cleaning the house bathing cleaning utensils and flushing toilets. After use the water becomes wastewater. This wastewater contains a lot pollutants. When this enters water bodies like rivers through the sewers. It pollutes the water.
SOIL POLLUTION
Dumping of solid wastes such as plastic begs glass bottles and metal containers causes land pollution. Excessive use of fertillsers and pesticides in crop fields causes land pollution.
SOURCES OF LAND POLLUTION
- GARBAGE: When garbage and waste materials are not disposed off correectly they end up in landfills or remain scatted around polluting the land. It is important to use proper trash bins and recyling facilities for proper disposal of garbage.
- CHEMICAL AND PESTICIDES: Some chemicals used in farming gardening or cleaning are harmful to the land. When they are used to much they pollute the soil and affects the plants and animals that live there.
- INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITIES: Some factories or industries dump their wastes into the soil. These wastes are full of chemicalsthat cause land pollution.
